Weekend Plastering (skimming) courses incorporates Plastering over Plasterboard ceilings and walls. Setting of skim beads over windows and columns and reskimming over previous work. During your skimming (Plastering) course you will learn so much from knowledge to hands on practical here at Goldtrowel in Essex.

These weekend Skimming courses are ideal for builders and DIY enthusiasts or for those all ready in the trade that need to get their confidence prior to tackling those bigger areas. The practical skills you gain are of a high standard and will cover the following:-

Weekend Skimming (Plastering) Course Structure:

Saturday:

You will learn how to

•      Apply 2 coat Finish Plaster, skimming the ceiling using the typewriter method and following the procedure for cutting back.

•      Setting of skim (angle) beads over windows and columns.

•     Apply 2 coat Finish Plaster to walls and window reveals using the correct method and the following procedure for cutting back.

 

Sunday:

•      On day 2 you will carry out a re-skim to a different ceiling requiring a paint finish.
•      Setting of skim (angle) beads over windows and columns and reskimming over previous work.
•      Reskim (Plaster) over existing walls 
•      In depth discussions of projects that you may have.

•      Name six backgrounds that Thistle Bonding can be applied over?
•      Name 2 backgrounds that Thistle Hardwall can be applied and why?
•      What is shelling and how do you overcome it?
•      Why shouldnt you PVA float work?
•      What is the Trowel Float Trowel method, and where would you use it?
•      How do you hold off plaster to tackle those bigger areas? Difference between qualities of sand that can have an adverse effect to rendering?
•       Variants of backing plasters and its usages?
•      Understanding the gauge of plaster mixes?
•     Differences between Mutli Finish and Board Finish, and what substrates it can cover?
