Recognised Plumbing Training in City and Guilds Level 2 6189-11 (formally 6129 & 6089).

We are an established, approved City & Guilds Training Centre and are able to offer you the opportunity to obtain the City & Guilds 6189-11 Level 2 Diploma in Domestic Plumbing and Heating.

If you are considering entering the plumbing trade with little or no previous experience and want to become a General Domestic Plumber, the City & Guilds 6189 -11 Level 2 Diploma is the qualification you should obtain as it is the world wide and industry recognised standard for a General Domestic plumber. This is a 10 week full time course Monday to Friday. The price is ?3095 VAT and Registration Fees already included in price. NO more than 4 people on Course.



The 6189 level 2 course starts with basic pipe work skills and moves onto more complex plumbing tasks, including airing cupboards, bathroom suites, above ground drainage, central heating installation (no gas/oil) and low carbon steel. The various tasks set will provide you with the skills to undertake such work competently and safely once you are working as a Plumber.

Following training in all of the above units, assessment will be by a variety of methods including closed book on-line exams, open book on-line exams and practical assessments undertaken within the training centre and on site.

All practical assessments are recorded, photographed and signed off by our qualified assessors, and overseen by our own qualified Internal Verifiers. This system ensures that the entire course, practical through to written/online exams is carried out here on site at Goldtrowel without delay and in a professional manner.

Throughout your training we will provide all tools and materials required for you to successfully complete your assessments. All we ask is that you ensure that you have protective footwear and fire-retardant overalls are mandatory for this course.

We also recommend you purchase the reading material: Plumbing NVQ and Technical Certificate Level 2 by JTL as well as a revision guide. This reference book will provide you with all the relevant information required to successfully complete this plumbing course. If you use this reference book as recommended by your instructor, it will help you achieve your goal.

That plumbing course is the City and Guilds 6189 -2 Level 2 Technical certificate course.

This C&G 6189 Plumbing qualification forms the basis of knowledge for all modern domestic plumbing and is the starting point for anyone looking for a career in plumbing. Many training providers will try and sell you City & Guilds 6022 or 6032 as an equivalent or as industry recognised qualifications but they are not. These courses will not provide you with the skills or knowledge a plumber needs.

  • At the end of your course, your completed portfolio together with the results of your assessments and exams are submitted to City & Guilds for certification and award for the City & Guilds 6189 Level 2 Plumbing Technical Certificate. Throughout your training we will provide all tools and materials required for you to successfully complete your assessments. All we ask is that you ensure that you have protective footwear and fire-retardant overalls are required for health and safety available at Goldtrowel.
  • If you are still undecided about a career in plumbing, why not try our 5 day plumbing course first. This will give you a good insight into what is required to undertake plumbing tasks successfully. If from that you decide to progress to the 6129 and a career as a plumber, this will prove to be useful when you undertake some of your practical assessments.
  • This qualification is Industry standard and should sell itself.
  • Following a deposit of ?500, the balance can be divided over the training period and paid in interest free instalments.

What will you be competent to do when you have passed?

After successful completion of the City & Guilds 6189 Level 2 Plumbing Course you will be able, with confidence, tackle most, if not all, general domestic plumbing from fixing a leaky tap to the design and installation of a full bathroom suite. Typically general domestic plumbers carry out the following plumbing projects:

  • Full bathroom installation and commissioning 
  • Install and maintain radiators & central heating systems (not gas work) 
  • Installation of appliances such as washing machines, dishwashers etc..
  • Install and maintain domestic hot and cold water systems
